The release of Paula Cole's debut album, Harbinger, marked the arrival of an extraordinary vocalist and songwriter with a startling gift for conveying her most revealing emotions through music. This Fire, is an immensely satisfying follow-up, spotlighting Paula's emergence as both producer and pianist while giving voice to a passionate set of new songs. Paula has won the admiration of her fellow musicians. Melissa Etheridge asked Paula to join her for the original Duets broadcast on VH-1. Paula has also toured as a member of Peter Gabriel's band. Gabriel returns the favor here with a guest vocal on Hush, Hush, Hush. Paula is an unforgettable live performer who has drawn raves for the intensity of her shows.
Certified double platinum by the RIAA. (6/98)

DJ KENTARO's new record features guest turns from THE PHARCYDE, FAT JON, NEW FLESH, LITTLE TEMPO, HIFANA and all the members of SPANK ROCK. 'Enter' runs from the funk of "Free" to the dubby downtempo soul of "Tasogare Highway", through the drum and bass attack of "Rainy Day," the live reggae feel of "Handmade Gift," the squelching dance aesthetic of "Space Jungle," on into the tribal space-jazz of "Harvest Dance," the epic turntable cut-up of "One Hand Blizzard" and, finally, the cosmic hip hop of "Let It Go". It's not that he can't scratch the hell out of a piece of vinyl when he wants to (check finale "Grateful To You") it's just that he understands that making a great album demands a wider palette.

A cross between Alanis Morissette and Kylie Minogue, you couldn't engineer a more likely late '90s pop star than Natalie Imbrugila if you tried. Blessed with a stunning bone structure and a passable voice, Australian soap star Imbruglia and producer Phil Thornally turned Ednaswap's gritty "Torn" into a swirling pop confection. Nothing else on her debut quite matches it, in part because Left of the Middle hews closer to the center than it cares to admit. Imbruglia manages to touch on a wide range of female styles--angry ("One More Addiction"), electronica ("Big Mistake"), and yearning ("Smoke")--without leaving her fingerprints on any of them. --Steven Mirkin
